Hi, my name is Lee Keller and I founded 360Bikers. In 2008 this company will officially become a charitable foundation to support fallen bikers. Motorcyclists as a group do more for charities than any other group of people I know. They are there for cancer programs, muscular dystrophy, children's charities, and many, many more. They are there when someone in their community falls upon hard times. Bikers are do a lot for many needy organizations but there is no organization for the bikers. The foundation will have two sources of income to support this charity. The first is the proceeds from this web site where everyone can sell motorcycle related products at extremely discounted prices. This is designed to be the steady income for the program.
The second income will come from a major charity motorcycle run like none we have ever seen. The main event is a 10,600 mile run to be completed in 29 days from Key West, around the country and parts of Canada, back to Key West. The ride will begin in June with possible changes as we move forward. Riders will have an opportunity to have input during preparation. The 360Bikers USA Grand Tour will include the USA Four Corners requirements and qualify riders for that sanctioned award in the process. Each rider is required to get donations totaling $2 per mile. That's over $22,000 per biker. It is our hope to have at least 20 riders in the Grand Tour which includes specially selected scenic runs and more than 30 media conferences. Twenty riders will produce more than $400,000 for the charity. Rider awards and patches will be given out at the banquet at the end of the ride. High profile financial supporters, such as companies that put up the total support of a rider, will also be recognized. While up to 10% of the proceeds could be used to offset costs of such a ride, we are pursuing corporate sponsors to pay for things such as food, lodging, gasoline and even oil changes since this ride will require at least two. The more large scale partners we get the more money will actually get into the hands of needy bikers.
We recognize that most people cannot participate in such a large scale event. We will be coordinating six regional motorcycle rides that will ride partial distances with the main ride and complete smaller loops that take about 1 week. These riders are expected to get $1 per mile donation and the average trip is only about 2,000 to 3,000 miles depending on the region. It is our hope to get at least 10 riders in each of these regions to generate a minimum of $140,000 more. These rides will culminate with a cookout to celebrate the ride. Awards will also be given out at the cookout.
Even a one week ride can be more than some riders can take. Whether for medical reasons, family responsibilities, or work, there are reasons you can't get away. That's why each regional ride will have points at which fellow riders can join in the fun. Regional directors will determine and plan any Poker Runs or related activities to supplement the charity. We want every rider to recognize that this is a charity for motorcyclists. It's time to give back to the bikers.
With all the generation of funds it is common to get questions about where the money will go and how it will be distributed. We will have a form through which requests will be made either by fallen bikers or in their behalf. Funding is intended for medical, legal, and family expenses. A national profile of at least 7 will include motorcyclist from around the country. Typical grants will range from $5,000 to $15,000 depending on needs and associated circumstances. Police reports and interviews will be conducted to determine case situations. Bikers that are not driving properly (excessive speed, reckless behavior, DUI, etc.) will be disqualified. More details will come forward as the foundation develops.
Back to the ride.... You have a lot of time to plan for this event. You can get started right now by registering. It isn't an obligation at this point and that part won't begin until January 2009. If you have any interest in being part of the 360Bikers USA Grand Tour event, register by clicking here. You will be part of one of the biggest, most important motorcycle events to benefit bikers. Let's get this thing started.
